The role
As a Workshop Manager, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You will be responsible for effectively managing the business’s operational resources to safely deliver output in line with the current plan and any subsequent changes. It involves making informed prioritisation decisions to maximise resource efficiency and ensure successful execution using the assets available.
Day-to-day, you’ll have the following responsibilities:
1. Support the team in delivering outputs aligned with operational plans
2. Manage and prioritise resource allocation to meet delivery targets
3. Ensure effective supervision of remote and out-of-hours teams
4. Monitor and optimise authorised overtime for cost efficiency
5. Make decisions to recover output against plans when needed.
This role is full time working 37 hours per week, Monday to Thursday and is based on site at DSG Bovington, Dorset.
Essential experience of the Workshop Manager:
6. Proficient in production ERP systems such as Baan, SAP, or IFS
7. Qualified or actively pursuing certification in lean management methodologies
8. Skilled in using MS Office, Outlook, SharePoint, and ERP platforms
9. Strong leadership capabilities with experience managing individuals and teams.
Qualifications for the Workshop Manager:
10. Minimum Level 4 qualification under the National Qualification Framework (e.g. Higher Apprenticeship, HNC, Level 4 NVQ) or equivalent industry experience
11. Completed recognised managerial Health and Safety certification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH, British Safety Council)
12. Successfully undertaken relevant management development training or courses.
