Specialist Pharmacist

Medicine of the Elderly (MOE)

NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service

Western General Hospital

Band 7 | 0.4 WTE | 14 Hours

£48,788 - £56,747 pro rata per annum

(including evening, weekend, and public holidays commitment)

This position offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact on the care of frail older people across our admissions and downstream MOE wards.

About the Role

This post is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic pharmacist looking to specialise or advance in MOE. You’ll:

1. Play a key role in the pharmaceutical care of older people.
2. Collaborate closely with the MOE pharmacy team and wider multidisciplinary team (MDT) to optimise patients’ medicines and care.
3. Support and develop other members of the pharmacy team
4. Benefit from opportunities for service improvement, independent prescribing training, delivery of education and training and other personal and professional development initiatives.

This is an exciting time for the WGH MOE service with significant developments and new investment in the MOE pharmacy team. This allows us to deliver care earlier in the patient journey, avoiding unnecessary admissions and minimising length of stay.

You’ll have the chance to work on:

5. MOE ward rounds in the Medical Assessment Unit and in the specialist MOE admissions unit (ward 72)
6. Downstream ward multidisciplinary team meetings / ward rounds
7. Service development projects aimed at improving patient care and modernising service delivery.

This is an ideal progression opportunity for a rotational pharmacist, or a specialist pharmacist looking to provide holistic care to frail older adults.

About you

We’re looking for someone with:

8. A Master of Pharmacy Degree (or equivalent) and General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) registration.
9. Completion of or have equivalent competence mapped to the .
10. A commitment to improving patient care through pro-active, evidence-based pharmaceutical services.
11. Experience in influencing prescribing practices and working in a patient-focused environment.
