SEMH Support Assistant - Primary School

A welcoming primary school in Bury is looking for a SEMH Support Assistant to join their team, working closely with pupils who need additional help managing emotions, behaviour, and engagement with learning.
This is a role where patience, consistency, and understanding make a real difference - not just in the classroom, but in a child's confidence and future.
What this role is all about
You'll be supporting pupils who may find school challenging at times, helping them feel more settled, focused, and ready to learn.
Your role will include:
• Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs
• Helping children develop emotional regulation and coping strategies
• Supporting pupils to stay engaged with lessons and classroom routines
• Working alongside the teacher, SENCO, and wider support team
• Encouraging confidence, resilience, and positive relationships
• Creating a calm, structured, and supportive environment
You'll be someone pupils can rely on - a consistent and supportive presence throughout their day.
Who this role would suit
We're looking for someone who:
• Has experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs
• Ideally has worked in a primary school setting
• Is calm, patient, and able to stay consistent under pressure
• Builds strong relationships based on trust and understanding
• Communicates well and works effectively as part of a team
• Has experience with phonics or Read Write Inc. (RWI) (desirable)
