This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. About the Role:

As a Pharmacy Support Worker (Higher Level), you will play a key role in our dedicated pharmacy team at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Lauriston Buildings and play a vital role in supporting the safe provision of medicines within a hospital environment. In this role, you will:

1. Take a lead role in receiving, booking, and processing bulk stock orders for clinical areas.
2. Undertake labelling and dispensing of medicines.
3. Support the training and development of the Pharmacy Support Worker team, ensuring high standards of service delivery.
4. Collaborate with senior pharmacy technicians on service improvement initiatives to optimize the efficiency of medicine supplies throughout the hospital.
5. The post holder will rotate between the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh Pharmacy Distribution and Lauriston dispensary and will be included with weekend working, late working and public holiday commitments.

About You:

The successful candidate must be educated to/or within 12 months following probationary period, completion of:

SQA Pharmacy Services Group Award (GA) SCQF Level 6, and specific education requirements for individual areas within pharmacy.

The postholder will require the following Pharmacy Services SCQF L6 units if not already undertaken within the Group Award above, depending on their role within the department:

Aseptic - Aseptic Preparation in Pharmacy (SCQF level 7) or Pharmacy Services SCQF Level 6 Unit Pharm 19 and relevant T-set modules (on-line resource delivered by The Technical Specialist Education and Training Group) - .

Dispensary - Pharmacy Services SCQF Level 6 units Pharm 07 and 09

Clinical / Ward - Pharmacy Services SCQF Level 6 units Pharm 13 and 14

Stores / Distribution - Pharmacy Services SCQF Level 6 units Pharm 12, 13 and 14.

There will be a need to cover the full group award of 7 units and the relevant units are selected as per the job role.

The successful candidate should also have:

10. National 4 (or equivalent) English, Mathematics and a Science (Biology or Chemistry).
11. Previous experience in healthcare or pharmacy is essential.
12. A passion for learning and development, with a professional attitude and commitment to providing exceptional patient care.
