Purpose : To take the lead in developing an exciting, safe, fun and vibrant young peoples ministry which aims to proclaim Jesus Christ through relevant and engaging Bible teaching and prayer so that young people come to a mature faith, learn how to reach out with the good news of Jesus to their friends, and discover their own spiritual gifts, using them to serve others.
Our aim for the youth ministry, like that of the wider church, is to produce Christian disciples. Therefore, we aim to proclaim Jesus Christ through engaging Bible teaching and prayer so that young people come to a mature faith, learn how to reach out with the good news of Jesus to their friends, and discover their own spiritual gifts, using them to serve others. The Bible, Gods living word, relevantly and engagingly used, must be at the centre of everything we do. Every structure or programme should be negotiable. But our commitment to Christ and his word is not to be negotiable.
There is a difference between what young people want and what they need. Its this difference that lies at the heart of Christian youth ministry.
Youth Wants: fun, friends, parties.
Youth Needs: Security and significance. Young people can feel insecure and look for relationship with people who care for them. Above all they need a relationship with God. They need to know Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour, to become like Jesus, and to learn and understand the word of God and how it applies to their lives. What Christian youth ministry is aiming for is to meet youth needs.
