Job Overview
University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust offers a 6‑month locum post in the dynamic Haematology Team. The role requires interest in myeloma and general haematology, and enthusiasm for liaison haematology. You will work within the myeloma and combined haematology teams and collaborate with clinical and laboratory colleagues.
Our 21 consultants work closely with resident doctors and specialist nurses covering all specialist areas of haematology and support regional services such as oncology, paediatrics, obstetrics and major trauma. The team also collaborates across Wessex and Thames Valley, offering opportunities to develop regional pathways. The Trust supports consultant development through a Doctors’ Development Unit providing mentoring and coaching.

Main Responsibilities
* Management of patients with myeloma and related disorders in inpatient, day‑case and outpatient settings.
* Management of patients referred for and treated with autologous stem cell transplant.
* In‑patient ward attending on a 1:3 basis covering combined haematology, including inpatient management of myeloma, myeloid and non‑malignant haematology cases with support from subspecialty colleagues.
* Undertaking triage of new referrals and providing advice and guidance to primary care and the wider Trust.
* Management of patients in the general haematology outpatient clinic.
* Contributing to delivery of the consultative and liaison haematology service with consultant colleagues and trainees.
* Participating in the non‑resident 1:6 out‑of‑hours consultant rota for combined haematology.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Qualifications, Training & Experience
Essential Criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* GMC registration with licence to practise.
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement.
* MRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent).
* Evidence of specific experience and/or training in myeloma and general haematology.
Desirable Criteria
* CCT (haematology) or within 6 months of obtaining CCT on interview date.
* Recognised educational supervisor training.
* Higher degree e.g. MD/PhD.
* Publications relating to haematology.
Aptitudes and Skills
Essential Criteria
* Evidence and ability to work effectively in multi‑professional teams.
* Evidence and ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and colleagues (verbal and written communication skills in English).
* Demonstrate good organisational skills including ability to prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
* Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
* Demonstrate appropriate level of clinical experience and competence in clinical and laboratory haematology to practice independently at consultant level.
* Competence with information technology including remote working.
