The Opportunity Braintree is a growing Essex town with a strong focus on preparing its young people for a globalized economy. We are seeking an enthusiastic Spanish Teacher to join our Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) department. In this role, you will be more than a linguist; you will be a cultural ambassador, opening doors for students to explore the diverse heritage, literature, and professional opportunities of the Spanish-speaking world—from Madrid to Mexico City and beyond. The Department You will join a vibrant MFL faculty that prioritizes "Spontaneous Speaking" and immersive classroom environments. The department is equipped with a dedicated digital language lab and interactive software (such as Linguascope and SentenceBuilders) to make vocabulary acquisition engaging and competitive. We follow a curriculum that emphasizes cultural capital, integrating film, music, and authentic culinary experiences alongside grammar and syntax. We have established links for international exchange programs and virtual "pen-pal" initiatives with schools in Castile-La Mancha and Andalusia, giving students a real-world purpose for their learning. Core Responsibilities Curriculum Delivery: Teaching Spanish across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (AQA/Edexcel), with the opportunity to lead A-Level modules on Spanish cinema, history, and social trends for the right candidate. Grammar Mastery: Helping students navigate the complexities of Spanish verb conjugations, tenses, and mood (including the subjunctive) through logical modelling and creative practice. Phonics & Pronunciation: Explicitly teaching Spanish phonics to ensure students develop high levels of confidence and accuracy in their oral examinations. Cultural Integration: Designing lessons that explore Hispanic traditions, from Día de los Muertos to the impact of Spanish art (Goya, Picasso, Kahlo) on global culture. Differentiated Support: Utilizing scaffolding and retrieval practice to ensure that all learners—from those with SEN to high-attainers—can experience the "quick wins" of language learning. The Successful Candidate We are looking for a linguist who can make the Spanish language come alive in the heart of Essex. Requirements include: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Spanish or a related discipline (Native fluency or near-native proficiency is highly desirable). Pedagogical Flair: The ability to use "Gapped" texts, "Narrow Reading," and gamified learning to keep students motivated and engaged. Classroom Energy: A teacher who can create a high-challenge, low-threat environment where students feel safe to make mistakes and practice their speaking skills. Organization: A commitment to high-quality planning and the ability to track student progress across the four key skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Why Join Us? A school that values MFL as a core academic pillar, essential for the EBacc and for students' future employability. Access to specialized CPD focused on the latest "EPIC" (Extensive Processing Instruction) methodologies and language acquisition research. The opportunity to work in Braintree, a town offering a blend of historic market charm and modern amenities, with excellent links to Chelmsford, Colchester, and London. A supportive, professional staff culture that encourages collaborative planning and international school trips.
