Engineering Manager (Design)

The Role
* Seeking an experienced Engineering Manager (Design) to lead design coordination on major projects
* Act as the technical lead, managing multiple design consultants and ensuring programme alignment
* Oversee design inputs/outputs, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and quality standards
* They will support the Project Manager with design reporting, governance, and stakeholder coordination
Key Responsibilities
* Manage and coordinate design consultants and deliverables across the project lifecycle
* Lead resolution of design queries (RFIs) and technical issues
* Review designs for compliance, constructability, and contract alignment
* Produce and maintain design programmes, reports, and deliverable schedules
* Chair design reviews, interface meetings, and stakeholder workshops
* Manage design change control and approval processes
* Collaborate with client representatives and external stakeholders
* Oversee document control, drawings issuance, and design communications
* Support procurement and engagement of suppliers and subcontractors
* Lead engagement with approval bodies (e.g. TAA, NR, LUL)
Key Requirements
* Strong experience as an Engineering Manager / Design Manager within construction or infrastructure
* Proven background managing multi-disciplinary design teams and consultants
* Experience delivering large, complex projects (energy, rail, or infrastructure preferred)
* Prior experience in a design consultancy or temporary works design environment
* Strong knowledge of design assurance, approvals, and change management processes
* Ability to chair technical meetings and engage senior stakeholders
* Understanding of Principal Designer duties and CDM regulations
* Demonstrated ability to drive programme, quality, and performance
