We are recruiting for a full-time hours per week) Health Care Assistant to join St Luke's Hospice. This is a hands-on role providing compassionate, person-centred care across our services, working closely with registered nurses and the wider multidisciplinary team to support patients and their families.
You will assist with personal care, observe and report changes in patients' condition, support mealtimes and nutrition, help with mobility and comfort, and contribute to a calm, dignified environment for people receiving hospice care. You will also keep accurate records, follow infection prevention procedures and participate in team handovers and care planning.
Key responsibilities
* Provide empathic personal care including washing, dressing, toileting and assistance with eating and drinking.
* Support mobility and safe moving and handling, using hoists and equipment as required.
* Observe patients and report changes in condition to registered staff promptly.
* Assist with symptom management under the guidance of the nursing team.
* Maintain accurate and timely record-keeping, including care notes and observations.
* Follow infection control, manual handling and health and safety procedures at all times.
* Contribute to a supportive environment for patients and families, providing companionship and practical help.
* Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team and participate in handovers, team meetings and training.
What we're looking for
* Previous experience in a health or social care setting is desirable but not essential; we welcome applications from those with transferable skills and a caring approach.
* Compassionate, patient-centred communication skills and a friendly manner.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing initiative and reliability.
* Comfortable with basic clinical tasks and record keeping; willing to undertake training and complete mandatory certificates.
* Awareness of confidentiality and safeguarding standards.
* Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays as required.
* Driving licence and access to a vehicle may be required depending on the role.
