What You'll Do: As a Subject Access Request Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing and responding to Subject Access Requests (SARs) in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR. Your primary focus will be on redacting and issuing information while ensuring compliance with statutory obligations. Key Responsibilities Include: SAR Case Management: - Receive and process SAR requests from data subjects or their representatives.- Collaborate with service areas to locate and retrieve relevant personal data.- Review and redact third-party or exempt information using specialised software.- Issue redacted information securely and within statutory timescales. Compliance and Legal Interpretation: - Apply relevant exemptions and document decisions to ensure defensibility.- Maintain accurate records in the corporate SAR register for audit purposes.What We're Looking For: Essential Skills: In-depth knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR, especially concerning complex SAR cases. Experience handling SARs within a local authority or regulated environment. Strong analytical and redaction skills with keen attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and case management systems, along with redaction software tools. Ability to manage sensitive information discreetly and professionally.Desirable Skills: Familiarity with case management systems (e.g., Icase). Data Protection or Information Governance qualifications (e.g., BCS, ISEB, CIPP/E). Understanding of Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations.
