Overview
Seeking a consultant anaesthetist to provide, develop and expand services at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital including high dependency care, maternal critical care, obstetric anaesthesia, gynecological anaesthesia, reproductive medicine, gynecological oncology, robotic surgeries and obstetrics. The role supports a busy maternity and gynaecology service.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide elective and emergency obstetric anaesthesia on the main delivery suite.
* Deliver anaesthetic care for high‑dependency and gynaecological surgical lists, including operating theatre and pre‑operative assessment clinic.
* Participate in the Society of Mersey Obstetric Anaesthesia and Obstetric Anaesthesia Association activities.
* Support and train junior anaesthetic staff and other multidisciplinary teams.
* Contribute to development of high‑dependency care and routine obstetric anaesthesia services.
* Engage in research and teaching activities within the department.
Qualifications & Experience
* Registered on the Specialist Register in Anaesthesia.
* Hold the FRCA or equivalent qualification.
* Demonstrated recent, wide experience of high‑risk obstetric anaesthesia.
* Experience with anaesthesia for high‑dependency care, especially in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Other Requirements
* Will have adequate office accommodation and secretarial support.
* Funding available for appropriate study leave and continuing professional development.
* Initial Professional Activity (SPA) offered as 1.5 PA (6 hrs) for CPD; further SPA may be granted with a job plan.
* Policy on twilight sessions may be reviewed; future need possible.
Location & Working Hours
Part of the main delivery suite and gynaecology department at Liverpool Women’s Hospital – a tertiary referral centre for complex obstetric problems. Sessions include two daily theatre lists or pre‑operative assessment clinic in gynaecology, plus potential twilight sessions.
