We are looking for an experienced and hands‑on Finance Manager to join a successful and ambitious, family‑owned B2B retail business with a strong reputation for quality, service, and long‑standing customer relationships.
JHM Butt and Co, founded in 1971, are a leading supplier of garage equipment and workshop tools across the UK. Our customers range from independent operators to national brands such as Halfords and Kwik Fit.
As we continue to grow, this is a key leadership role within the finance function, offering broad responsibility and the opportunity to make a real impact.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will take ownership of management accounts, financial reporting, and performance insight to support strategic decision‑making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
* Own the preparation and delivery of monthly management accounts
* Produce weekly and monthly performance reporting, identifying trends and opportunities across products, customers, and channels
* Oversee sales and purchase ledgers, ensuring strong controls and accuracy
* Take responsibility compliance reporting
* Lead year‑end processes, including coordination with external auditors
* Partner with the Finance Director on analysis, reporting, and strategic projects
What Success Looks Like
* Management accounts and reporting are consistently accurate, timely, and trusted by stakeholders
* Utilise AI to create clear insight that drives better commercial decisions to increase performance and customer satisfaction
* Processes are efficient, well‑controlled, and continuously improving
* Ensure that VAT and CIS returns are accurately submitted and paid on time.
* Year‑end is delivered smoothly and on time, with effective external relationships
* Supporting the FD to create added value and insight to strategic decisions
About You
* Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
* Proven experience in a finance leadership role, ideally within retail or B2B distribution
* Strong technical knowledge of management accounting, VAT, and year‑end processes
* Systems‑savvy, with experience improving finance processes and systems
* Advanced Excel skills
* Highly organised, with strong attention to detail
* Proactive, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, family‑run environment

Location & Working Pattern
This is an office‑based role in Harworth, North Nottinghamshire. Due to the hands‑on and collaborative nature of the position, candidates should be within a reasonable commuting distance and able to work on‑site full‑time.
