Job Summary
We are looking for a consultant in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care Medicine to join the Critical Care and theatre teams at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post is substantive with base on the Basingstoke site and an aim to expand the tertiary elective major surgical program. Applicants may be on the Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine & Anaesthetics or have CESR/CESR(GP); equivalent training evidence is welcome.
Our critical care facilities include an 18 bed Critical Care Unit at Basingstoke and a 9 bed unit at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. The post includes on-call activity in Critical Care on a 1:8 frequency, with potential for activity in Winchester by mutual agreement.
Role and responsibilities
* Provide a safe, effective, responsive, and caring anaesthetic and Critical Care service to the standard expected of a Consultant.
* Agree a job plan with the Clinical Directors in Critical Care and Anaesthetics and work flexibly to meet departmental needs.
* Participate actively in clinical governance, including incident reporting, investigation of serious incidents, and handling complaints.
* Strive to meet or exceed the standards of the National Patients' Rights Charter.
* Familiarity with the Royal College of Anaesthetists' and College of Intensive Care Medicine curricula for Junior Doctor Training and contribute to training requirements, including tutorials and educational supervision where required.
Contract and clinical activity details
* The post is offered on a 10 Programmed Activity (PA) contract: Critical Care will incorporate at least 4 PA (including on call); Anaesthetic work constitutes the remaining PA to make up 8.5 DCC PAs in a 10 PA contract. There is potential for more work in critical care or anaesthetics up to 12 PA on negotiation.
* SPA allowance starts at 1.5 PA; opportunities to develop roles outside the department may be recognised with extra SPA time. Staff may be required to work at any Trust site as the service requires.

Essential and Desirable Qualifications
* Professional Qualifications
o Full GMC registration with a licence to practice
o Entry onto GMC specialist register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
o MBBS or equivalent
o Fellow of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FFICM) or equivalent
o CCT in Intensive Care Medicine (or CESR/CESR(GP)) or obtain within 6 months of interview date
o FRCA & CCT in Anaesthetics (or CESR/CESR(GP)) or obtain within 6 months of interview date
* Clinical Experience & Knowledge
o Advanced level training in Intensive Care Medicine (as defined by the FICM)
o Experience of general and regional anaesthesia to UK consultant level
* Clinical Skills & Ability
o Organisational ability and awareness of service development issues
o Willingness to share administrative responsibilities
o Understanding NHS system nationally, regionally and locally
o Ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams, communicate effectively, and work in a close-knit team
