Role Overview

Are you ready to unlock your potential within a challenging, creative and fast‑paced work environment? This is an excellent opportunity for a registered nurse to join a diverse, talented healthcare team at HMP Channings Wood and deliver care that is efficient, patient‑centred and focused on well‑being.

Our new model of integrated primary care provides mental health, physical health, pharmacy and substance misuse support to prisoners, with a structured progression pathway for career development. Please note that we are currently unable to offer a certificate of sponsorship.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide high quality primary care and specialist nursing interventions for offenders.
* Deliver clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service, demonstrating robust expert clinical skills and evidence‑based nursing practice.
* Carry out a range of duties, including:
o Reception screening
o Emergency response
o Long‑term conditions management
o Planned care (e.g. running clinics)
o Enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services
o Health promotion activities
* Support the development of evidence‑based practice, promote research, and participate in managerial and professional clinical supervision programmes.
* Collaborate with the Clinical Lead, GPs and other clinicians to review service needs and ensure patient‑centred care planning.
* Maximise uptake of screening, health promotion and prevention activities, including vaccinations.
* Ensure proactive, evidence‑based clinical interventions for patients with complex needs through a stepped care approach.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Registered Nurse (or newly qualified with preceptorship opportunity).
* Experience as a Band 5 nurse or equivalent in offender healthcare is preferred.
* Willingness to undertake National Security Vetting and meet all necessary security checks.
* Proof of right to work documentation and photographic ID.
* Proof of address documentation (5 years address history required).
* Non‑UK passport holders must provide a Home Office Share Code and, if required, an overseas police check in English.
* UK passport holders who have lived abroad for more than six months in the last three years must provide a certificate of good conduct or overseas police check.
* Strong communication, organisational and clinical assessment skills.


Important Information

All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting as part of the pre‑employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team.
