WSP – Principal Geotechnical Engineer (Manchester)
WSP is looking for Principal grade Geotechnical Engineers or Engineering Geologists for our offices across the UK. These roles are available on either a full‑time or part‑time basis.

* The development of professional and technically competent reports and liaison with specialists and clients across a wide range of sectors, using efficient working practices to provide industry‑leading, best‑value services.
* Effectively managing and delivering project work with robust project financial management.
* Assisting in the management of team resources and allocation of appropriate project resources.
* Managing, motivating, mentoring and developing professional staff.
* Providing support in all aspects of project delivery including client liaison, contractors and sub‑consultants, public and statutory body consultation, quality control and management of specialists.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate.
* Technical expertise in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology with a demonstrable understanding of the underlying principles of either discipline.
* Consultancy experience with demonstrably good commercial awareness and relationships with clients and contractors.
* Chartered professional qualification and significant post‑qualification experience.
* Experience in the delivery of geotechnical, engineering geology and other ground engineering projects, including preparing reports to a high technical level.
* An understanding of client requirements and the ability to influence contract specifications.
* Experience of being part of or leading delivery teams that are effective in delivering short to medium term projects from inception to construction.
* Excellent report‑writing and client liaison skills.
* Proven previous experience of undertaking and managing desk studies; designing, procuring and supervising Ground Investigations; checking Ground Investigation Reports and Geotechnical Design Reports in accordance with the requirements of Eurocode 7: Part 1.
* Working knowledge of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes, ground investigation and construction contracts and specifications.
* Familiarity and an ability to interrogate a wide range of geotechnical software for the design of civil engineering projects including deep and shallow foundations, embedded and gravity retaining walls, earthworks/slope stability and reinforced earthworks.
* The skills to check and critically evaluate the work done by others, be it drawings, calculations or reports, and have a proven track record of doing so.

Stantec – Senior / Principal Geotechnical Engineer (North of England – Stoke / Manchester)
We are expanding our Geo Division and are seeking a Senior / Principal Geotechnical Consultant. The role will involve supporting clients through the planning and construction process, advising on scoping site investigations, and producing interpretive reports and geotechnical design reports.
About You
* BEng, BSc or higher degree in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering, or a first degree in Geology with an MSc in Contaminated Land or Geotechnical Engineering.
* Chartered Member of a relevant institution or working towards achieving Chartership.
* Strong foundation in UK‑based practices, soil mechanics, soil‑structure interaction, and experience in geotechnical design.
* Proficiency in using industry‑standard software tools (e.g., Plaxis 3D).
Role responsibilities
* Design and management of geotechnical projects, including writing Geotechnical Design Reports, Earthworks Specifications and Geotechnical Feedback Reports.
* On‑site construction phase auditing of earthworks and geotechnical projects.
* Keeping up‑to‑date with current best practice, including Eurocode 7 and CD622.

* Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, geology or related field; preference for MEng in Geotechnical Engineering.

Principal Geotechnical Mining Engineer – Remote (Global)
Our client requires a highly experienced Principal Geotechnical Mining Engineer to join their team on a fully remote basis.
Key responsibilities
* Conduct detailed geotechnical risk assessments, slope stability analyses, and design ground support systems.
* Interpret geological and geotechnical data, recommending exploration strategies and ground investigation techniques.
* Coordinate with mine planning and operations teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine plans and schedules.
* Mentor junior engineers and share best practices and technical standards.
* Communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Ideal candidate profile
* A Master’s or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related field.
* Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in mine geotechnical engineering.
* Expertise in numerical modeling software (e.g., FLAC3D, ABAQUS, UDEC).
* Strong understanding of rock mechanics, hydrogeology, and empirical design methods.
