Overview
We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Medical Physics Expert (Radiotherapy) to join our team of 73 Clinical Scientists and Clinical Technologists at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The role is within the Treatment Planning and Imaging section and involves day‑to‑day management of scientific and operational matters of treatment planning. The position reports to the Scientific Lead – Treatment Planning and Imaging and is expected to take on the majority of the management of the treatment planning service with a high degree of autonomy.
The department operates 14 linear accelerators (13 Varian TrueBeam, 2 with HD‑MLC, 1 Varian Ethos) and performs approximately 700 treatment plans per month using Varian Eclipse TPS and RadCalc for dose verification. The post holder will lead projects such as upgrading or replacing the TPS in Q4 2026, replacing the independent dose checker, reviewing dose‑calculation algorithms, and increasing automation.
Responsibilities
* Manage day‑to‑day scientific and operational aspects of treatment planning.
* Lead the upgrade or replacement of the Treatment Planning System (TPS) and independent dose checker.
* Review and optimise dose‑calculation algorithms.
* Drive automation and improvement initiatives in treatment planning.
* Oversee production of approximately 700 treatment plans per month.
Qualifications
* Established Medical Physics Expert with significant experience in treatment planning.
* Track record of driving change, improvement and development of new protocols and techniques.
* Strong knowledge of Varian Eclipse TPS, RadCalc and associated planning techniques (VMAT, IMRT, SABR, TBI, DIBH, gating, HyperArc, RapidPlan).
* Experience with linear accelerator maintenance and radiation safety.
