Advertised whilst awaiting RCR approval. This is a new post for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week to provide Clinical Oncology management and treatment within the HPB and Colorectal Disease Groups.
The Clinical Oncologist will work with the HPB and Colorectal teams to provide a comprehensive clinical service for patients in the outpatient, inpatient and ambulatory settings, delivering radiotherapy and systemic anti‑cancer therapy (SACT) while also providing Clinical Oncology input to the associated MDTs.
Responsibilities
Deliver high quality clinical oncology services to patients with colorectal and HPB malignancies, including:
* Outpatient clinic care and inpatient care on adult oncology wards
* Planning and delivery of radiotherapy, including SBRT, MR‑guided adaptive RT, stereotactic ablative radiotherapy and other precision radiation treatment options
* Systemic anti‑cancer therapy and coordination with chemotherapy services
* Participation in multidisciplinary teams and provision of clinical oncology input to MDT meetings
* Leadership, training and management roles such as chairing clinical committees, leading clinical pathways or representing the Clinical Oncology department at Trust meetings
* Active involvement in clinical research studies and early clinical trial units, supporting trial recruitment and collaboration between lower GI and clinical oncology research teams
Team Composition
The activity is supported by a multidisciplinary team including:
* Nurse Clinicians / Advanced Clinical Practitioners (including trainees) – 8.65 WTE
* Clinical Nurse Specialists – 7.66 WTE
* Clinical / Research Fellows – 1.8 WTE
* Specialist Trainees – 4.4 WTE
* Pharmacists, Research Nurses and Specialist Radiographers – 2 WTE
HPB Oncology
Provide consultant‑level care for patients with HPB malignancies (pancreatic cancer, biliary tract cancers, hepatocellular carcinoma) and abdominal oligometastatic tumours, including oncological expertise in radiotherapy (MR‑guided adaptive RT, stereotactic ablative RT) and systemic therapy.
Colorectal Oncology
Deliver radiotherapy and systemic therapy for colorectal malignancies, with engagement in advanced radiation modalities such as SBRT, Proton or MR Linac development. Support clinical trials and research studies within the colorectal and lower GI oncology teams.
