The Role: Learning Support Assistant (SEN & SEMH)

This is a full-time,position starting in January. This position is for an enthusiastic, resilient, and compassionate individual to join a dynamic and inclusive support team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring pupils with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs) have full access to the curriculum and achieve their personal best. The role requires flexibility, empathy, and a proactive approach to managing learning and behaviour.

Requirements

* Experience supporting young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly SEMH.
* Ability to demonstrate a proactive and organised approach to work.
* Eligibility to work in the UK.
* Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness to apply for one)

* Empathy and Compassion: The ability to connect emotionally and provide comfort to upset pupils.
* Behaviour Management: Proven strategies for managing challenging social, emotional, and mental health needs.
* Active Listening: Strong ability to listen and understand the unique needs and concerns of young people.
* Adaptability and Flexibility: Readiness to adjust support methods and duties in response to changing pupil needs.
* Teamwork and Collaboration: Excellent ability to work closely with teachers, leaders, and outside professionals.
* Resourcefulness and Creativity: The skill to modify resources and devise engaging interventions.


Key Responsibilities

* Provide tailored one-on-one and small group support to pupils both in mainstream lessons and in the specialised resource centre.
* Assist teachers in the planning and preparation of differentiated learning materials and resources.
* Support the personal, social, and emotional welfare of vulnerable pupils, including during social activities.
* Implement and monitor pupil EHCPs and personal care plans, accurately completing associated records and reports.
* Assist in managing classroom behaviour, using established strategies to de-escalate and manage emotional outbursts.
* Deliver focused intervention sessions across various subject areas, helping pupils grasp complex concepts.
* Encourage pupil independence and confidence by providing constructive and specific feedback.
* Liaise effectively with pastoral teams, curriculum staff, and parents to support the personalised learning agenda.
* Supervise pupils during non-lesson times, such as in the playground or corridors, ensuring safety and positive conduct.
* Contribute to the creation of a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
