Job Description:
GSL SEN Education is seeking Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or Education Studies graduates based in Redditch to work as SEN Learning Support Assistants in a specialist school for children with EHCPs related to trauma, social, emotional, and mental health challenges, including ADHD, ADD, OCD, and other conditions.
This role offers practical experience for graduates aspiring to careers in Clinical Psychology, Advocacy, Youth/Social Justice, or Teaching. It provides daily exposure to the nuanced and vital work of supporting children with diverse mental health and trauma backgrounds.
Key considerations when working in this role include:
1. Building relationships based on comfort through a Restorative approach.
2. Demonstrating the value of education to students.
Understanding the unique contexts of each child's mental health, trauma, culture, and home life is essential. Building trust and relationships through a restorative model is crucial and should never be overlooked.
Applicants must have a strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection and will need to pass background checks, including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
Details of the role include:
* Working with a large provision of 60 children aged 5-16, both boys and girls.
* Collaborating with outstanding SEN professionals and like-minded Psychology and Criminology graduates.
* Potential shadowing of specialists, depending on schedules and individual needs.
* Class sizes of no more than 6, with a mix of 1:1 and small group work.
* Focus on Key and Personal Skills, Sports, Cooking, Technology, Music, Drama, Photography, and Art.
* All training and support provided by the school through their excellent training system.
