Job Summary
Fixed Term 12 months, 2 x Band 6 Clinical Trial Monitor, 36 hours full‑time. The Academic and Clinical Central Office for Research and Development (ACCORD) seeks an experienced Clinical Trials Monitor to support the delivery of high‑quality, compliant clinical research across NHS Lothian and the University of Edinburgh.
Responsibilities
* Undertake risk‑based monitoring of clinical trials (including CTIMPs and CIMDs) in line with ICH‑GCP, UK legislation and local SOPs.
* Plan, conduct and report monitoring visits; verify trial data and informed consent; review safety reporting; and ensure participant safety and data integrity.
* Provide expert research governance advice and support preparation for regulatory inspections (e.g. MHRA).
* Contribute to training and education for research teams and be involved in the full clinical trial lifecycle from risk assessment and set‑up to close‑out and archive.
* Work closely with multidisciplinary research teams to support high‑quality research through proportionate risk‑based monitoring and expert governance advice.
Qualifications
* A degree in life sciences or a nursing discipline.
* At least three years’ clinical trial monitoring experience.
* GCP training and strong knowledge of UK research governance.
* Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills, with the ability to work independently.
Key Details
* Hybrid working role with at least two days office‑based per week; travel to NHS sites across Lothian and the UK is required.
* Post holder must have a PVG Scheme membership or record; if not a current PVG member the applicant must obtain a satisfactory Disclosures Scotland record before appointment.
* Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, a different level of criminal records check may be required for regulated roles.
