About The Role Contract: Permanent Salary: HC07 £31,067 - £35,235 Hours: 37 Location: Hereford Closing Date: 30/06/2025 Located at the heart of the Marches, the historic border countryside where England meets Wales, Herefordshire is one of the most rural counties in England. The county is considered beautiful, unspoilt countryside, including parts of two National Landscapes, many historic parklands, the cathedral city of Hereford and attractive market towns, which all contribute to an excellent quality of life. The mosaic of trees, hedgerows and woodlands in Herefordshire offer multiple benefits within both rural and urban contexts and their management is vital in addressing the climate and ecological emergency (declared by Herefordshire Council in December 2019). Acting as Tree Officer, you will be part of the Natural Environment team comprising; Ecology, Landscape, Trees and Public Open Space and will work closely with colleagues in the Development Management, Strategic Planning and Enforcement teams, as well as other environmental specialists. Your main duties will be: To provide arboricultural advice to the Development Management team and other internal and external customers working within appropriate timescales Case officer for tree work applications and related notifications Manage Tree Preservation Orders, including serving, modifying, revoking, enforcing and monitor replacement planting. To review, interpret and advise on specialist arboricultural reports, guidance, planning policy and legislation Promoting best arboricultural practice across the county To work with other teams across the council to address the council’s Climate and Ecological Emergency; help implement the recent Hereforshire Tree, Hedgerow and Woodland Strategy and the developing Local Nature Recovery Strategy.
