Middleweight to Senior Interior Architect / Designer (RIBA Part 2 or equivalent)

Location: Malvern, Worcestershire

Malvern WR14 1JL

Middleweight / Senior Interior Store Designer - £38,000 - £47,500 a year - Full-time

This is an excellent opportunity for an Interior Designer, with a minimum of 3+ years' experience, to work on established concepts within the Design Team due to continued growth. The role is predominantly office-based and involves working on brand roll-out programmes for retail, commercial environments, and workspaces.

You will work directly with clients and oversee the development of your ideas with the design team. Formadesign (UK) Ltd is a creative agency specialising in retail and commercial brand activation, working collaboratively to create memorable brand experiences.


Responsibilities

* Work independently, or with colleagues and the Director, attend client and design team briefings and gather all necessary information to establish the brief.
* Prepare plan proposals demonstrating a thorough understanding of the client's requirements.
* Prepare design ideas and concepts.
* Manage the creative development of drawing sets, renders, etc.
* Prepare statutory applications and ensure compliance with applicable legislation.
* Oversee new store approvals processes with landlords and third parties.
* Manage local authority approvals e.g. building control and planning consents.
* Work closely with the Design Director and client lead to interpret briefs and develop detailed elements from initial concept proposals.
* Collaborate with other consultants to ensure development of design elements, cost control, coordination, information flow, and programme.
* Assist in the production of, and direct the preparation of, all construction information including detailed plans.
* Manage and integrate overlaying drawing layers from external parties (e.g. HVAC, Lighting, life safety).
* Obtain competitive tenders for contract works.
* Support production of internal and external design approval packs.
* Specify and obtain quotations for FF&E and other non-contract elements, and ensure orders are placed as required.
* Visit and assist with surveys of retail environments, workspaces and commercial areas, including measurement surveying and appraisal to highlight issues or design changes.
* Liaise with on-site works and update plans during planning and build phases.
* Resolve issues and changes as they occur, recognising the fast-paced nature of the sector.
* Manage handover processes, record keeping and statutory sign-off.


Qualifications

* Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp.
* A sound knowledge of other programmes including Photoshop and Microsoft Office. Experience with InDesign, Rhino and V-Ray is of interest but not essential.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills to present visually appealing work clearly and confidently.
* Enjoy the challenge of lateral thinking and problem-solving with the ability to improve processes and ways of working.
* Ability to work efficiently within a team on brand roll-out programmes.
* Ability to analyse and problem-solve, adapting existing concepts to different non-standard sites.
* Attention to detail and consistency in drawing work to produce high-quality drawings.
* Ability to work well as part of a team, both collaboratively and independently, after briefing with the Design Team.
* Thrive in a fast-paced environment, working to tight deadlines with a positive attitude.


Experience

* Minimum BA Hons (or equivalent) in Interior Design, Architecture, or similar.
* Held roles in the Retail and Commercial design sector with drawing experience in the construction industry, ideally within a retail/commercial environment.
* Broad design experience from project inception to handover.
* Creative and technical experience including space planning and detailing.
* Good understanding of Building Regulations, Planning, and other technical standards.
* Confident and efficient in interacting with clients, design team, contractors, and suppliers.
* UK driving licence and access to a vehicle preferable.
