We offer opportunities to work within both inpatient and outpatient settings. We care for acutely unwell patients and develop skills including tracheostomy care, respiratory management, pain control, diabetic management, and neurorehabilitation. As part of the rehabilitation process for patients with spinal cord injuries, you will gain experience in tissue viability, health promotion, bladder management, and physiotherapy. Complex discharge planning and outreach surveillance are also key areas of the spinal cord injury pathway for professional development.
At the Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI), we are excited to offer nursing positions for both newly qualified and experienced nurses.
We are committed to supporting new staff to develop the specialist knowledge and skills needed to provide excellent care to individuals with spinal cord injuries, promoting maximum independence based on injury level. The 'MCSI Preceptorship Programme' ensures you complete specialist competencies with support from the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
The RJAH also runs a preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses, with links to the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin ICS. Registered practitioners have the opportunity to undertake the Orthopaedic Course at degree or master's level.
Our Midland Centre for Spinal Injuries (MCSI) is one of 11 designated centres in the UK for treating spinal cord injuries.
