Open Spaces Operative We are currently looking for an Open Spaces Operative to join our Open Spaces Team at Thanet District Council. The role of Open Spaces Operative includes a range of grounds maintenance tasks across Thanet including grass cutting (ride-on and push mowers, strimmers), hedge cutting, weed control, maintaining beds and borders, as well as assisting with other tasks such as tree planting. You need to be physically fit to undertake this manual role throughout the day, including a lot of walking. Previous experience in a similar grounds maintenance role, along with knowledge of driving a vehicle with a trailer, is desirable; however, complete training will be provided to the successful candidates (driving licence is essential). You will come into contact with open space visitors regularly, so you need to be able to handle a range of enquiries, including complaints. Importantly, you need a desire to make a difference to the residents and visitors of Thanet, along with a strong work ethic, including the ability to work in all weathers. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience in a similar role/or has an interest in the outdoors, and a willingness to work hard to make a difference. This is a full-time position, working from the Open Spaces Depot in Margate. Working hours are set as 7.30 am to 3.30 pm (3 pm Friday) with an unpaid 10-minute break and 20-minute lunch programmed into the day. To discuss this position further, please contact Richard O’Connell at richard.o'connell@thanet.gov.uk
