A well-established healthcare provider is seeking an experienced Registered Physical Health Nurse to join a specialist adolescent inpatient service. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with complex needs and wants to progress their career within a supportive, multidisciplinary environment.
The Service
You will be based within a dedicated adolescent unit providing inpatient care for young people aged 12–18. The service supports individuals with a range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, psychosis, neurodevelopmental needs (such as mild learning disabilities or autism), and disordered eating.
The Role
As the Physical Health Nurse, you will take the lead on coordinating and delivering high-quality physical healthcare for service users. Your responsibilities will include:
* Implementing and monitoring physical healthcare plans to promote optimal wellbeing
* Ensuring staff complete routine and ad-hoc physical health tests (e.g., blood tests for Clozapine/Lithium, long-term condition monitoring) and recording outcomes accurately
* Leading the development and review of physical health care plans
* Supporting the wider clinical team and providing cover where necessary
* Ensuring ECGs are carried out as prescribed and fully documented
* Acting as lead educator for naso-gastric (NG) feeding practices and ensuring adherence to dietetic guidance
* Attending weekly review meetings to contribute to physical health planning
* Chairing monthly healthy-living sessions on topics such as smoking cessation, exercise and nutrition
* Acting as the infection-control lead, offering professional advice and training to staff
* Completing clinical audits and supporting emergency drills
* Facilitating training sessions on physical health topics and best practices
* Supporting immunisation programmes (e.g. flu and routine vaccinations)
* Providing health promotion support to staff, families and other professionals
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will need:
* Current and valid NMC registration (evidence required)
* 2–3 years’ post-registration experience
* Experience with NG feeding and phlebotomy
* Experience delivering training to others
* Understanding of eating disorders and mental health conditions
* Experience working with young people (desirable)
