Overview
We are recruiting a Band 7 Senior Clinical Supervisor to lead our newest Mental Health Support Team (MHST) in Havering, launching in January 2026. Locally known as the Havering Emotional Support Team (HEST), the service began in 2022 and is expanding again. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and develop a new team, working at the forefront of children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing. Our MHSTs work in partnership with schools, colleges, and community services to provide early access to evidence-based support.
We are a motivated, multicultural team passionate about innovation, quality improvement, and research, with recent collaborations including projects with Edge Hill University. The Senior Supervisor will provide leadership, supervision, and clinical expertise to ensure high-quality care for children, young people, and their families, and will build strong relationships with schools and local partners to embed a whole-school approach to emotional wellbeing across Havering and Waltham Forest.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership, supervision, and clinical expertise to ensure high-quality care for children, young people, and their families.
* Build strong working relationships with schools, families, and multi-agency partners.
* Supervise CBT-informed interventions delivered in group and individual formats.
* Deliver and supervise whole-school mental health initiatives and provide education staff with consultation and training to build capacity in supporting children and young people.
* Use outcome measures to inform supervision and evidence impact.
* Support service development through quality improvement and innovation.
* Collaborate with senior colleagues to shape the growth of MHSTs in Havering and Waltham Forest.
* Supervise Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) and provide brief, outcome-focused evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties in schools.
* Work with the Clinical Lead to liaise with schools, develop and co-produce materials for delivery/presentation in schools, and support the embedding of the MHSTs in schools; maintain a small caseload and participate in universal and targeted group interventions in schools.
Role and supervision
The postholder will supervise EMHPs, equipping them with the knowledge, attitude, and capabilities to operate effectively in an inclusive, value-driven service. Working under the direction of the Clinical Lead, the postholder will liaise directly with schools and support service development and integration of MHSTs in schools.
Working arrangements and benefits
Induction and probation: New starters join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undergo a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory and systems training, with opportunities to meet the executive team and attend drop-in sessions. The induction will be held at the Trust head office in Rainham, Essex; this post is subject to a probationary period.
High Cost Area Supplement: This post attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,714 and maximum £5,941 per annum, pro rata for part-time).
Teaching, Training and Supervision: The successful candidate will be expected to attend relevant courses (CYP-MH Supervision) to fulfil training requirements if not already completed. Supervision: Children and Young People's Mental Health and Wellbeing Services PG Cert (UCL) – for prospective students.
