Role: ECU Manager – Economic Crime Unit (ECU) within the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU).
You will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals and act as the strategic lead for the management of financial investigations in line with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). You will drive continuous improvement in how we work and ensure obligations under POCA are fulfilled. You will work with internal teams and external partners to influence and align priorities across enforcement agencies.
Responsibilities
* Provide leadership to two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; motivate, develop, and manage performance and delivery.
* Set the strategic direction for financial investigations and POCA compliance; continuously improve how the ECU operates.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC) to influence priorities at senior levels.
* Support the wider organisation by sharing lessons learnt, contributing to technical documentation, and advising enforcement officers nationwide on POCA.
* Work as part of the nationally dispersed ECU team dealing with serious and complex criminality involving organised networks.
Experience/Skills Required
* exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team; good understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience in the law enforcement sector with understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication: delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise a varied workload, and identify areas for improvement; lead changes to working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and individuals within it.
Contact and Additional Information
This is a hybrid role with flexible working from home and your nearest office. Travel across the country for meetings and operational duties may be required. Incident response is central to our work; you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support, which may attract additional pay. Training and workplace adjustments will be provided.
