Lead the delivery of exceptional occupational health services - join Tetra Tech as an Occupational Health Technician
Purpose and scope of the role
You will deliver occupational health services including health surveillance, fitness-for-work screening, health promotion and venepuncture across client sites, mobile screening units and Tetra Tech clinics. Typical daily duties include audiometry, spirometry, skin and hand-arm vibration checks, drug and alcohol testing and occupational medicals for roles such as drivers and working-at-height personnel. You will work with a regional team and support nationwide projects and clients, including assignments in the UK that may require regular overnight travel. Salary band: £26,000-£30,000 depending on experience; overtime available.

In the short term you will deliver reliable, client-facing clinical services and contribute to team quality standards. In the medium term you will deepen clinical specialisms, lead client assignments and take responsibility for autonomous decision-making on fitness-for-work outcomes. In the longer term there are clear routes for professional development and internal progression within Tetra Tech’s occupational health services, including opportunities to mentor colleagues and participate in service improvement projects that support nationwide programmes.
Core Capabilities Required For Success
* Clinical proficiency: Demonstrable competence in audiometry, spirometry, venepuncture and basic occupational health assessments, with accurate record-keeping.
* Autonomous working & judgement: Ability to conduct assessments and make clinical recommendations independently while escalating complex cases appropriately.
* Client engagement & communication: Clear, professional communication with clients, line managers and multidisciplinary teams; ability to explain clinical findings succinctly.
* Operational mobility & safety: Confident driving of mobile screening units (vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes), willingness to undertake frequent travel and overnight stays, and adherence to health and safety procedures.
* Digital literacy & administration: Competent user of MS Office and electronic medical records systems with strong organisational and audit-ready documentation skills.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Required: previous occupational health experience (health surveillance or fitness-for-work), full UK driving licence, willingness to travel and stay overnight, strong communication skills and IT proficiency. Desirable: venepuncture certification, drug & alcohol testing training, experience driving mobile screening units, relevant occupational health qualifications or NVQ/SVQ equivalents.
Work patterns & location
Field-based role covering Milton Keynes and wider UK assignments. Expect frequent travel and regular overnight stays.
