DESCRIPTION
Role & Responsibilities
Equipment Technicians are responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and testing of lighting and supporting equipment, ensuring every item meets MBSE's high standards of quality control prior to rental. This includes preparing equipment as directed by the line manager, delivering items for dispatch in line with standard operating procedures, completing PAT testing, and carrying out all necessary mechanical, visual, and functional checks. Technicians must also conduct minor equipment maintenance within the ten‑minute repair guideline, maintain accurate scanning and stock records (including non‑coded items) and ensure a continuous workflow of testing and improving storage and labelling during quieter periods. They are expected to make full use of internal systems and knowledge bases to expand their understanding of all rental assets, their uses, accessories, and potential issues, acting as equipment specialists within operations. The role also involves managing unloads and returns by safely loading and unloading vehicles, scanning, sorting, and relocating equipment, identifying and processing sub‑hire items, and reporting any damaged or missing equipment. Throughout all duties, Equipment Technicians must maintain a tidy, safe working environment, adhere to relevant risk assessments, use PPE and manual handling equipment correctly, and liaise with their line manager to support correct stock levels.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will be IT literate with a solid understanding of Microsoft Outlook and capable of learning the MBS stock control inventory system (Rental Tracker Pro). They will be a strong team player with a positive work ethic, able to cope with pressure and adapt to changing deadlines. This role requires someone who is self‑motivated, well organised, and able to plan and prioritise their workload effectively. Flexibility is essential, as the position requires availability to work evenings and weekends in line with operational demands, as well as undertaking a 40‑hour working week with occasional additional hours. Experience in the lighting industry and familiarity with stock control systems would be advantageous, as would holding an HGV licence, though none are essential. The role also involves some heavy lifting, so the successful candidate must be physically capable of meeting the demands of the position.
What's on offer
This is a full-time role based on a 40-hour working week, operating on a rotating shift basis between 7:00am and 8:00pm, which includes some weekend work. We offer a competitive salary with the opportunity to earn regular overtime. Our comprehensive benefits package includes 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays, private health insurance, a great pension scheme, life insurance and an annual discretionary bonus scheme.
