Freelance Project Manager – Infrastructure Works (Major UK DNO Framework)
Location: Wakefield / Yorkshire (Site-Based)

Client: Major UK Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Project Manager to lead delivery of infrastructure works for a major UK DNO. Projects include substation upgrades, overhead line (OHL) works, and associated electrical network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Lead planning, coordination, and delivery of infrastructure projects on site.
Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure successful delivery.
Oversee subcontractor performance, compliance, and health & safety.
Act as the client's main point of contact on-site, providing updates and reports.
Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
Cost Control & Reporting
Monitor project budgets and track expenditure against forecasts.
Support the commercial/QS team with valuations and change management.
Identify risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies.
Produce progress reports for senior stakeholders and client representatives.
Stakeholder Management
Liaise with engineers, surveyors, and planners to align operational and commercial objectives.
Maintain strong communication with subcontractors, clients, and internal teams.
Attend site meetings and project reviews, representing the delivery team professionally.
Candidate Profile
Essential: Proven project management experience on infrastructure projects (substations, overhead lines, network works), strong site management and budget control skills.
Desirable: NEC contract knowledge, DNO or regulated utility experience, professional project management accreditation (e.g., PMP, RICS, CIOB).
