We are pleased to help recruit an experienced Specialist Doctor in Medical Microbiology for our NHS Client based in West Scotland. This is a fixed-term 24-month role (supporting the CESR/portfolio pathway) working alongside a dedicated, highly skilled microbiology team. If you are a senior microbiologist ready for a rewarding, well-supported role in a stunning part of Scotland—or know someone who is—we’d love to hear from you.
You will join three established Consultant Microbiologists with specialist interests in antimicrobial stewardship, orthopaedic infection, and S. aureus bacteraemia, plus a strong multidisciplinary laboratory team.
The Microbiology Department processes over 245,000 samples annually, is UKAS accredited, and has invested heavily in automation and molecular diagnostics (BioMérieux Vitek 2, Bruker MALDI-TOF, Abbott Alinity, Cepheid GeneXpert, Seegene Starlet)
The post offers a mix of clinical liaison, multidisciplinary team meetings, infection prevention and control, and specialist ward rounds (including ITU, orthopaedics, renal HDU, and S. aureus bacteraemia).
Professional development: The board offers full CESR support, generous study leave, and encourages participation in national groups such as the Scottish Microbiology and Virology Network and Scottish Infection Control Doctors Forum.
The location offers a rare balance of professional challenge and quality of life.
The main city is just 30 minutes away by car or direct rail, with two international airports nearby.
Excellent state and private schools, welcoming communities, and affordable housing—whether you prefer bustling towns or peaceful coastal villages.
