Overview
Senior Systems Engineer at Allegro MicroSystems is a role within the Allegro Power Business Unit, Intelligent Motor Drivers (IMD) business line. The team develops motor drivers that include an ASIC and SoC system. Focus application segments are Automotive, Industrial and datacentre infrastructure. The successful candidate will have customer-facing experience and be comfortable developing and communicating the product value proposition to internal and external customers. The person will work with design to ensure products are built to specification and will involve application engineering to build the customer support ecosystem, functional validation of new products, and early design-in activities.
The role requires collaboration with strategic marketing, field application engineering, and customers to specify new and differentiated products that address customer needs, generate technical value propositions, and help create collateral for internal stakeholders and external customers and partners.
What You’ll Do
* Responsible for new product definitions throughout its lifecycle from concept definition to RTM (release to manufacturing).
* Conduct competitive analysis and develop deep understanding of customer applications and systems.
* Define and articulate value-add requirements of the products.
* Create and maintain requirements and specifications documents.
* Collaborate with Design/Test and Manufacturing to ensure products are designed to specifications.
* Build validation plans and own their execution across multiple teams.
* Partner with strategic marketing for product promotions and collateral generation (reference design, evaluation boards, white papers, application notes, software tools, etc.).
* Collaborate with and train field application engineers to support customer designs.
* Develop and maintain a customer support ecosystem to enable design-in.
* Engage with customers through demonstrations with field application engineering and sales teams.
Who You Are
* BSEE (MSEE preferred) or equivalent, with deep understanding of motor control (e.g., sensorless FOC for PMSM, IPMSM or BLDC).
* Strong understanding of 3-phase inverter gate driver design for automotive 12 or 48V systems.
* Ability to design and evaluate 3-phase motor drive performance in a lab.
* Ability to design and build hardware such as PCBs, data acquisition systems, custom cables, and hand-soldered application boards.
* Real-time coding skills for motor control using C or MATLAB/Simulink; motor control simulation skills with MATLAB/Simulink.
* Core electronics hardware fundamentals and deep understanding of power conversion.
* Customer-facing experience in a technical role is necessary.
* Motor control algorithm evaluation skills in the lab; strong lab and circuit debugging skills; experience in defining demo systems.
* Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally.
* Strong verbal and presentation skills in English, with a balance of technical and business acumen; ability to multitask in a dynamic environment; strong interpersonal skills.
