Job Description
We seek a Software Infrastructure Engineer to offer technical support for developing and deploying the PDBe and PDBe-KB web services within the broader ecosystem of EMBL-EBI and the PDBe-KB and wwPDB collaborations.
The tasks for this post include the following:
1. Supporting the weekly release process of PDBe.
2. Supporting the development and deployment of PDBe and PDBe-KB web services, including microservice deployment.
3. Developing and maintaining data pipelines to process and manage large-scale structural biology data.
4. Working with workflow orchestration tools like Apache Airflow and Nextflow.
5. Liaising with the EMBL-EBI Technical Services Cluster.
6. Supporting the development and deployment of other scientific software.
The successful candidate will report directly to the PDBe Infrastructure Lead as a Technical Officer. This role is an opportunity to bring IT skills and innovative ideas to help sustain the growing amount of structural biology data in the PDB and ensure that PDBe and PDBe-KB services remain sustainable.
You have
* MSc in computer science, IT, or a related field, or in bioinformatics with demonstrated IT expertise.
* Expertise in Python (3.x).
* Proficiency in Linux scripting.
* Proficiency in containerisation.
* Proficiency in relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL).
* Experience in developing and maintaining data pipelines.
* Hands-on experience with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Nextflow).
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
* Proficiency in oral and written English.
You may also have
* PhD in computer science, IT, or a related field, or in bioinformatics with demonstrated IT expertise.
* Experience in using Kubernetes.
* Experience with web servers (Apache/Nginx).
* Hands-on experience with CI/CD (GitLab CI/GitHub Actions).
* Familiarity with networking.
* Familiarity with Java.
* Knowledge of, or interest in, structural biology and bioinformatics.
* Experience working in international teams.
