Switchgear Installation Engineer
UK Field based
We are seeking a skilled Installation Engineer with proven experience in switchgear systems to support the installation and maintenance of electrical distribution equipment with occasions of supporting commissioning activities. This role involves working on-site across industrial, commercial, or utility projects across the UK, ensuring installations are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Install and assemble low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) switchgear systems
Carry out on-site wiring, cabling, and terminations in line with technical drawings and schematics
Interpret electrical schematics, GA drawings, and wiring diagrams
Perform functional testing, inspections, and fault-finding on installed equipment
Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and company procedures
Liaise with project managers, clients, and other trades on-site
Complete installation documentation, test reports where required, and handover records
Support maintenance, upgrades, and retrofit projects where required
Travel to customer sites as needed (including overnight stays)
Required Skills & Experience
Proven experience installing and commissioning LV/MV/HV switchgear
Strong understanding of electrical transmission and distribution systems
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Experience with busbar systems, protection relays, and control wiring
Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g., IEC, BS EN)
Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) preferred
ECS/CSCS card (or equivalent site certification)
Full UK driving licence
