Publisher Role in Humanities, Social Sciences, and Law
As our new Publisher, you will manage a portfolio of journals to enhance OUP’s reputation in the academic community, supporting divisional goals.
You will collaborate with academic Editors to publish high-quality content and increase article output. Working with the Executive Publisher and Publishing Director, you will negotiate contractual terms with Editors and partners aligned with OUP’s strategic priorities and compliance standards.
Your responsibilities include managing Editors and affiliates, ensuring contractual adherence, and providing data analysis such as bibliometric and competitor analysis to inform strategic decisions.
You will respond promptly to Editors' queries, build strong relationships, and attend meetings and conferences, presenting reports on behalf of OUP.
Additional duties:
* Providing data analysis for journal development
* Collaborating with other departments (production, marketing, digital, sales)
* Managing costs with finance and operations teams
* Implementing journal policies and scaling projects
We operate a hybrid working policy requiring a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office.
About You
This role offers the chance to develop or deepen your journal management experience. You should understand scholarly publishing and excel at building relationships with academic editors.
You will have:
* Publishing or relevant professional experience, preferably with journals in social sciences and humanities
* Knowledge of academic publishing processes, industry trends, and technology
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills
* Analytical skills to review trends and guide development
