Position Details
National Grid is hiring a Senior Software Engineer on a permanent basis. The role is based at our Warwick office with a hybrid working policy.
Job Purpose
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in developing our digital planning tool, aimed at enhancing work planning efficiency across the network. Your expertise will help create a robust, user-friendly application that replaces traditional spreadsheet methods, enabling planners to work more effectively. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the tool meets user needs and adheres to best practices in software development, directly impacting the digital transformation of National Grid.
Key Responsibilities
* Participate in the entire product development lifecycle from ideation to launch.
* Collaborate with various disciplines and stakeholders to deliver excellent digital experiences.
* Write secure, maintainable, and readable code.
* Build observable, resilient systems.
* Contribute to engineering culture through innovation, process improvements, technology adoption, and mentorship.
* Maintain comprehensive documentation.
* Engage in system design and architectural discussions.
* Challenge and improve processes and ways of working.
* Support and mentor junior engineers.
Candidate Requirements
* Experience across the full software development lifecycle.
* High-quality, maintainable software delivery focus.
* Experience with cloud architecture solutions.
* Ability to work autonomously and manage ambiguity.
* Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
* Creative and effective problem-solving skills.
* Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
* Willingness to learn and share knowledge.
* Knowledge across multiple technologies including:
o Azure or alternative cloud providers
o C#
o TypeScript
o ReactJS
Benefits
Competitive salary between £65,000 – £73,000, dependent on capability. Additional benefits include a performance-based bonus, a contributory pension scheme with double matching contributions up to 12%, flexible benefits such as share incentive plans, salary sacrifice schemes, employee assistance programs, and charitable giving options.
