Overview
The Credit Controller plays a key role in ensuring the financial health of the organisation by managing the credit control process across multiple care homes. You will be responsible for monitoring and collecting outstanding debts from residents, families, local authorities, and NHS bodies, while maintaining a compassionate and professional approach in line with the values of the care sector.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage the end-to-end credit control process, including issuing invoices, statements, and chasing overdue payments.
* Monitor aged debt reports and take proactive steps to reduce outstanding balances.
* Liaise with residents, family members, local authorities, and other funding bodies to resolve payment issues.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of communications and payment plans.
* Work closely with care home managers and administrative staff to address billing queries or discrepancies.
* Set up and monitor direct debits and payment schedules.
* Escalate unresolved debt in accordance with the organisation's debt recovery policy.
* Support the Finance team during month-end processes and audits.
* Ensure compliance with GDPR, financial regulations, and company policies.
* Provide regular reports on debt levels and recovery performance to senior management.
Skills and Experience:
* Proven experience in a credit control or accounts receivable role, ideally within the healthcare or care home sector.
* Strong understanding of funding processes involving local authorities and NHS (desirable).
* Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to handle sensitive conversations tactfully.
* Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
* Proficient in accounting software (e.g. Sage, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Empathy and professionalism in dealing with vulnerable individuals and their families.
* Experience in data entry with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Familiarity with accounts payable processes is advantageous but not mandatory.
