About the role
The Storeman is responsible for managing the receipt, storage, and dispatch of goods/parts in a warehouse or stockroom. This role ensures accurate inventory control, proper storage practices, and timely distribution of materials.
Reporting to: Operations Manager
Working location: BYD’s Reading site, RG2 0TG
Key Responsibilities:
* Receive, inspect, and verify incoming goods against delivery notes or invoices
* Store materials in designated locations following company procedures
* Pick, pack, and prepare orders for dispatch
* Maintain accurate stock records and update inventory systems
* Conduct regular stock counts and assist with audits
* Ensure the warehouse is clean, organized, and safe at all times
* Operate warehouse equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) where required
* Report damaged or missing items to supervisors
* Follow health and safety regulations and company policies
Your profile:
* Previous experience in a warehouse/storekeeping role preferred
* Basic understanding of inventory management systems
* Good organizational and time-management skills
* Ability to lift and move heavy items
* Attention to detail and accuracy
* Team player with good communication skills
* Forklift license (desirable but not always required)
* Right to work in the UK
