The role
We are recruiting for a Sheltered Housing Scheme Assistant to work at our beautiful 13-acre retirement community to provide a professional and supportive in-person service to our residents. This is a varied role working a daytime shift pattern and involves regularly interacting with our residents; conducting welfare checks; responding in line with procedures to emergencies such as accidents or fire alarms; walking the site; identifying and reporting or responding appropriately to health and safety issues; and ensuring that basic administrative records are kept.
The person
Whilst it may be advantageous, you do not need to have previous experience for this role. You might come from a transferrable background for example having worked with vulnerable people in a caring or volunteer role; or have worked previously in a health or care service. Or you may have lived experience and have a genuine passion for working with older people. What is important to us is that you have great communication skill and a professional approach; that you can work independently and build relationships with a team; and that you have some experience of following procedures and keeping records. Training will be provided.

Shift pattern: 32hours per week - Mon-Tue 9-1, Wed-Fri 9-5 with additional hours and shifts are available from time to time.

This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Job Description
Engaging with Residents
Build positive relationships with residents, listen to their concerns, and escalate issues to Senior Warden to ensure appropriate support is provided.
Deliver lunch to vulnerable residents and collect and return used crockery, cutlery etc.
Respond promptly to warden alarm calls, assess the situation, and provide reassurance and support. Take appropriate action, including contacting emergency services or other relevant parties when necessary.
Carry out regular wellbeing checks for residents who have opted into this service, following the organisations policies to safeguard their welfare.
Log and report residents repair requests to the maintenance team.
Address out-of-hours issues by taking immediate action, escalating emergencies as needed, monitoring situations, keeping residents informed, arranging callouts, and ensuring safety, including relocation when necessary. Handle all resident concerns and report actions to administrative staff.
Take an interest and active part in resident social activities as individual circumstances allow
Health & Safety
Perform regular visual inspections to ensure building safety and security, including checking fire doors, windows, external doors, and fire exits for proper closure and obstruction-free conditions, especially during evening hours.
Operate the warden alarm call system equipment confidently, following system instructions.
Respond promptly to lift alarm activations and follow the associations procedures for lift trappings and breakdowns.
Respond to door entry calls, security breaches (contacting police as needed), and fire alarm activations, following company procedures and coordinating with emergency services, contractors, and maintenance teams. Stay updated on health and safety regulations and take appropriate action during emergencies.
Administrative
Maintain accurate records of completed tasks, incidents, and updates for handovers to the next Warden. Keep the Senior Warden and SMT informed as necessary.
Keep up to date records of residents who are away from home or in hospital .
Complete residents annual reviews and signpost as necessary .
Attend any meetings as required and training courses necessary to the position
General
Be responsible for the Association's mobile phone/device(s) and property keys during shifts, ensuring they are handed over to the next colleague
Liaise with internal teams, next of kin and external agencies as required.
Always keep the sleepover room and facilities clean and tidy
Abide by the Associations Policies and Procedures
Any other duties commensurate with the post as required
Person Specification
Passionate about supporting older people and working collaboratively to deliver the highest standard of care and support for residents
Empathetic and engaging with residents, families, and visitors, with strong interpersonal skills, active listening abilities, and emotional intelligence.
Ability to use discretion, always maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct
Ability to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule, following instructions and interpreting guidance as needed.
Adaptable and flexible to cover a range of responsibilities
Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, including the ability maintain a professional telephone manner.
Ability to work alone on own initiative and as part of a Team
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
Confident to conduct visits around Bencurtis Park and residents' homes, including during evening hours
Willingness and ability to use IT devices (desktop, laptop, tablet) and basic ability in MS Office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel).
