Are you an accomplished, collaborative, and strategically-minded leader ready to take the helm of a complex Estate? Cranleigh School invites applications for the vital role of Director of Estates.
Based at our beautiful Cranleigh site, you will be responsible for the maintenance and continual improvement of the entire Estate, making a lasting impact by overseeing all Estate compliance and playing a leading role in the practical implementation of our ambitious Masterplan 2025.

Key Responsibilities & Areas of Impact:
This diverse and strategic role encompasses leadership across four core pillars:
1.Strategic Development & Projects
*
Lead the delivery of capital projects from inception to completion (acting as the School's 'Client' under CDM regulations).
*
Develop and implement a long-term Estate strategy aligned with educational goals.
*
Manage the Strategic Maintenance Plan (including a rolling 5-year refurbishment programme).
*
Act as the School's 'Responsible Person' under DfE and HSE guidance.
2.Operational Management & Leadership
*
Directly manage and lead the Works Department.
*
Maintain an effective Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme and ensure all regulatory compliance is met and recorded (fire, water, electricity, asbestos, H&S).
*
Act as landlord for the School’s staff accommodation portfolio.
3.Sustainability & Utilities
*
Lead the School’s journey toward being operationally net zero, championing environmentally sustainable solutions.
*
Manage and monitor energy and water consumption to minimise operational costs.
4.Financial Control & Governance
*
Prepare and submit annual budgets for departmental expenditure and capital projects.
*
Exercise strict financial controls, adhering to competitive tendering to secure best value.
What You'll Bring (Essential Criteria)
*
Chartered status in a relevant discipline (e.g., MRICS, MCIOB, CIBSE, CIH).
*
A NEBOSH qualification (NGC or higher).
*
A proven track record of estate leadership in a complex, regulated environment (e.g., education, healthcare).
*
A valid current UK driving licence.
Desirable Attributes Include:
*
Familiarity with CDM Regulations and acting as Client.
*
Experience in the management of listed buildings and extensive sports facilities and estate management beyond buildings.
*
Strong understanding of ISSRs, NMS for Boarding, and the ISI's inspection regime.
