About the Job:
The role entails but is not limited to:
1. Maintain appropriate, sensitive, caring, and tactful relationships with patients, families, and carers.
2. Assist in the implementation of all care for which they are competent to practice under the direct supervision of registered staff, in accordance with St Giles Hospice policies and procedures.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of care procedures and clinical observations consistent with NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
4. Assist patients with daily living activities according to individual care plans under supervision of registered nurses.
5. Maintain patients' personal hygiene and appearance.
6. Assist with eating, drinking, toileting, and access to toilet facilities.
7. Help make patients comfortable and support them and their families, especially at end of life.
8. Report significant changes in patients' conditions to registered nurses.
9. Refer patients and relatives to other hospice services as appropriate.
10. Support registered nurses with technical care and record keeping, such as vital signs and specimen collection.
11. Exchange factual information and offer support to patients, families, and colleagues.
12. Maintain accurate patient records in accordance with guidance and training.
13. Ensure confidentiality of patient information at all times.
14. Assist with care after death and follow appropriate clinical procedures after training.
15. Adhere to health and safety policies, and participate in educational activities.
16. Comply with all hospice policies, procedures, and guidelines, and handle equipment and valuables responsibly.
17. Perform other duties as required, learn new skills, and support voluntary staff as needed.
18. Supervise less experienced Healthcare Assistants when appropriate and communicate effectively with the team.
