St Edward’s Prep School & Nursery is entering an exciting phase of growth and development. With rising pupil numbers, a strong sense of community and a commitment to delivering an engaging, future-focused curriculum, we are seeking a compassionate and ambitious leader to join our Senior Leadership Team as Assistant Headteacher – Pastoral & Inclusion.
This senior leadership role will support SLT in leading behaviour, pastoral care and pupil wellbeing across the school - including pupils’ social, emotional, physical, cultural and economic development - while also acting as the school’s nominated person for SEND and inclusion.
The successful candidate will work closely with SLT to support the maintenance of high standards of behaviour (particularly across Years 3–6), embed consistent pastoral systems and ensure inclusive practice is central to everyday school life.
Hours, Salary & Benefits:
Hours: Permanent role, full-time
Salary: £45,000 - £48,000 pa

Job Description:
Leadership & Management:
10. Contribute actively to the work of the Senior Leadership Team.
11. Support strategic school improvement planning.
12. Model the school’s values and high expectations.
13. Be a visible and approachable leader within the school community.
14. Contribute to inspection readiness and self-evaluation processes.
15. Support the school in attracting and recruiting new pupils, including representing the school at events, meeting prospective families and contributing to a positive public profile.
Pastoral, Behaviour & Safeguarding Leadership:
16. Support SLT in maintaining high standards of behaviour across the school, particularly in Years 3–6.
17. Lead the development and consistency of pastoral systems.
18. Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, supporting safeguarding leadership and practice.
19. Monitor behaviour and wellbeing trends to inform strategic decisions.
20. Promote positive relationships and a culture of respect and belonging.
21. Support staff with behaviour-for-learning strategies and emotionally informed approaches.
22. Work closely with families to ensure strong pastoral partnerships.
23. Lead initiatives that promote pupils’ physical, mental, social, cultural and economic wellbeing.
24. Ensure safeguarding is embedded within all pastoral systems and daily practice.
SEND & Inclusion Leadership:
25. Act as the school’s nominated lead for SEND and inclusion.
26. Oversee identification, assessment and provision for pupils with SEND.
27. Ensure statutory SEND requirements are met.
28. Coordinate and review support plans and interventions.
29. Monitor the impact of provision on pupil progress and wellbeing.
30. Work collaboratively with families and external agencies.
31. Support staff in delivering inclusive classroom practice.
32. Undertake SENDCo qualification if not already held (training supported by the school).
Teaching, Learning & Personalised Practice:
33. Teach a class and model excellent classroom practice.
34. Deliver engaging, inclusive and personalised learning.
35. Make effective use of IT and digital tools to enhance teaching and learning.
36. Maintain high expectations for behaviour and achievement.
37. Use assessment to identify and remove barriers to learning.
38. Share effective practice with colleagues and contribute to professional development.
