Reporting to the Assistant Director, this fixed-term role involves overseeing some of the team’s commissioning and monitoring activities. It requires a strong leadership style and the ability to work collaboratively with other Senior Programme Managers.
The position offers opportunities for external liaison with UK Government, academia, industry, and the clinical community.
Key responsibilities
1. Overall responsibility for the team’s commissioning and monitoring activities, including oversight of these activities.
2. Contributing to and leading strategic programme and departmental initiatives.
3. Drafting SOPs, work instructions, template documents, and issuing guidelines.
4. Attending regional advisory committee meetings in a supervisory capacity and providing advice as needed.
5. Representing RfPB in NIHR cross-cutting working groups as appropriate.
6. Liaising regularly with internal and external stakeholders, organizing and leading meetings, representing the funder’s perspective, and promoting funding programmes at external events.
7. Identifying improvements to working practices and supporting operational excellence.
8. Developing and maintaining professional relationships with GMG teams, applicants, award holders, and colleagues within NIHR and across organizations. Acting as a role model.
9. Handling special project work and assisting in preparing programme reports and papers.
10. Line management of up to three staff members.
11. Monitoring the quality and timelines of Research Managers’ work within the team.
12. Staff recruitment, mentoring, training, and supervision.
