Dispensing Receptionist required to join our fabulous team

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Dispensing Receptionist to join our team in delivering high quality care to our Practice population. We are looking for between 30 and 37 hours per week. NVQ level 2 dispensing qualification (or equivalent) is desirable but training would also be open to the correct candidate.

Market Overton is a picturesque village in the North of Rutland with a branch surgery in the village of Somerby just across the border in Leicestershire. Oakham Medical Practice is based in a thriving market town in the beautiful county of Rutland. The Practices serve 20,000 patients.

We are part of Rutland Health PCN and work collaboratively and effectively with our local partners in general practice, the community and social care.

We are a dynamic, creative and forward-thinking Partner led team. We are incredibly lucky to have a wonderful and supportive Practice team to work with. We pride ourselves upon being a learning and teaching Practice.

This position is full-time and offers a competitive salary, generous annual leave and access to the NHS Pension Scheme. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in General Practice. An NVQ level 2 qualification in dispensing is desirable. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and must be a team player as this is a role covering reception and dispensing duties.

Job Summary:

To ensure the provision of timely, efficient and accurate dispensing of medication and support the Reception team in completing general office duties as a Receptionist.

Responsibilities:

Reception duties

Ensure an effective and efficient reception service is provided to patients and any other visitors to the Practice.

Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.

Using your own judgment and communication skills ensure that patients with no prior appointment but who need urgent consultation are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner.

Explain Practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and those seeking temporary cover and ensure procedures are completed.

Receive and make telephone calls as required. Divert calls and take messages, ensuring accuracy of detail and prompt appropriate delivery.

Enter requests for home visits on to the computer visit screen, ensuring careful recording of all relevant details and where necessary refer to On-call Doctor.

Action repeat prescription requests from patients.

Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts.

Enter patient information on to the computer as required.

Assist with tasks sent to Reception that relate to patient enquires.

Receive samples from patients and ensure they are passed to the relevant clinician.

Undertake other reasonable duties as required, as directed by the Surgeries Manager.

Dispenser duties

Purchasing and Stock Control

Ordering stock from medication wholesalers.

Checking goods in from wholesaler deliveries and ensuring goods are stored appropriately.

Checking dispensary invoices against orders received, raise queries for any missing / damaged items.

Maintain adequate stocks at the surgeries, ensuring timely stock rotation.

Assist with 3 monthly expiry dates checks, removing out of date stock from shelves and refrigerators and flagging any drugs which are near their expiry date.

Checking and sending daily orders to each wholesaler, chasing up any medications on manufacture delay and returning incorrect goods to the wholesalers.

Annual stock takes in dispensaries.

Destruction of Drugs

Recording and sorting returned medication from patients.

Dealing with uncollected medication.

Disposal of returned unused medications.

Dispensing

Processing prescription repeats via the telephone or online. Liaise with pharmacist / clinician for any medication changes.

Dispensing repeat and acute prescriptions and ordering any medications needed.

Ensure controlled drugs are entered into the CD register, as appropriate.

Checking colleagues dispensing i.e. second signing.

Dispensing private patients' prescriptions and pricing.

Check prescriptions for signature/endorsements and sort, as standard operating procedure.

Collecting prescription charges from patients, recording and balancing prescriptions monies received at the end of the day (rota basis), ensuring enough change is left in the till.

At all times working in accordance with defined Standard Operating Procedures.

Other

Cover for other members of staff when on holiday or sickness cover.

Health & Safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others' health, safety and security as defined in the Practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

* Using personal security systems within the workplace according to Practice guidelines
* Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks
* Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills
* Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards
* Reporting potential risks identified

* Work effectively with individuals in other agencies to meet patients needs

The post-holder should recognize the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

* Communicate effectively with other team members
* Communicate effectively with patients and carers
* Recognize people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly.

Contribution to the Implementation of Services:

The post-holder will:

* Apply Practice policies, standards and guidance
* Discuss with other members of the team how the policies, standards and guidelines will affect own work
* Participate in audit where appropriate
