Overview
The U.S. Secret Service Special Agent role blends investigative and protective duties across the United States and abroad. Special agents provide protection for various protectees, conduct criminal investigations concerning the financial obligations of the United States, and plan and implement security designs for National Special Security Events. The role demands courage, intelligence, strength, and determination.
Responsibilities
* Provide protection for various protectees.
* Conduct criminal investigations pertaining to the financial obligations of the United States.
* Plan and implement security designs for National Special Security Events.
Qualifications
* U.S. citizenship is required.
* Possession of a current valid driver’s license.
* Weapon proficiency: carry and use a firearm; maintaining firearm proficiency is mandatory.
* Age 21 to 36 (age 37 for prior federal law enforcement or firefighter retirees). Veteran’s preference applicants must be under age 40 before receiving a conditional offer.
* Must obtain and retain a Top Secret clearance.
* Vision: uncorrected visual acuity of no worse than 20/100 binocular; corrected visual acuity of 20/20 or better in each eye.
* Hearing: audiogram must not exceed 25 dB in the 500, 1000, and 2000 Hz ranges in either ear.
* Undergo a drug test prior to appointment and random drug testing thereafter.
* Complete 13 weeks of intensive training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Glynco, GA, and 18 weeks of specialized training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Laurel, MD.
* Sign a mobility agreement to accept assignments anywhere in the United States and overseas.
* Register with the Selective Service System or be exempt if a male applicant born after December 31, 1980.
