Job overview
We are looking for a new or experienced nurse to join our OUTSTANDING Bryning / Medical Day Unit (MDU) team at Homerton. The Trust was rated outstanding by CQC in 2020 and are proud of the standards we maintain across our services.
Our team consists of a strong nursing and clinical ethos around patient centred care, safety and teamwork.
Medical Day Unit is an ambulatory state of the art unit that operates from Monday to Friday. Our patients consist of general haematology, haemoglobinopathies, rheumatology and gastroenterology. The Unit also works in conjunction with the Bryning Unit, which is a Geriatric Day Unit. It provides staff with a great opportunity to learn and develop their clinical, nursing and leadership skills.
The unit is a friendly environment with opportunities to learn from varying specialties and has its own Matron and CNS that supports clinically.
You will be placed on a supportive and structured education and training pathway, centred on reflective supervision, clinical skills, research and leadership.
We can offer you:
1. Dedicated Preceptor/Buddy on your unit with a supportive supernumerary period
2. Mentoring from a senior nurse, Band 6 and above across the organisation to discuss your career at regular intervals.
3. Education and development to enhance your clinical skills.
4. Opportunity to apply for a fully funded postgraduate training, including specialising in your clinical area.
We also welcome Nurses from a community or nursing home background.
Main duties of the job
5. Will practice within a team of nursing staff, and act as a named nurse for a group of patients: assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating their care needs.
6. Will not require direct supervision and will be expected to work collaboratively with the MDT.
7. Will be exposed to multiple specialties and exposure to day case procedures that includes Haematology, Gastroenterology, Rheumatology and Geriatric. Experience working with haematology and rheumatology patients would be an advantage. However, this is not essential as full training will be provided.
8. Will be expected to be competent in cannulation and venepuncture within one month of appointment, training will be provided.
9. Will be trained on the Automated Red Cell Exchange Transfusion (ARCET) procedure.
