An opportunity is available for an Operator (Overhead Lines) based at our Ludlow, Shropshire Depot.
As an Operator, you will assist a Craftsperson with the construction, maintenance, replacement, and repair of overhead lines up to and including 66kV. Some experience in the electrical field is preferred, but all necessary training will be provided.
The work involves being away from the depot, typically working in a team of two. The environment requires quick, decisive, and responsible actions to meet role demands.
You will also be responsible for ensuring the van contains all essential tools and equipment, working safely, and assisting with any labor required on site. The role involves physical work and a flexible approach to working hours, with a valid driving license being essential.
Applicants need to hold GCSEs in English & Maths (grades 1-9/G-A*) or equivalent qualifications such as Functional Skills. Evidence of qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Note: For roles involving working at height and using Personal Fall Protection Equipment, there are restrictions on maximum weight.
Main Responsibilities
Work at heights on all types of overhead lines. Duties include:
* Undertaking deadwork on LV, HV, and EHV systems under supervision.
* Operation of mechanical equipment.
* Inspecting poles and overhead equipment, rectifying minor defects.
* Trimming and felling trees.
* Excavating, laying cable, and backfilling.
* Excavating pole and stay holes.
* Delivering shutdown notices and making appointments.
* Resolving customer complaints where possible.
Ideal Candidate
You should be flexible and willing to assist the team in achieving objectives. Experience in the electrical field is preferred, but training will be provided. A category C HGV license and Driver CPC are beneficial but not essential.
A valid driving license is required as you may need to undertake standby duties across the area.
Role is subject to a satisfactory DBS check, with varying levels of screening depending on the position.
