Project Engineering Lead
Salary Range £59,000 - £75,000.
Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework. The salary range reflects the approved grade band for this role and is benchmarked against the external market. Exceptions above the standard range are managed through governance controls to protect internal equity.
What you’ll do
As a Project Engineering Lead you will provide engineering leadership and management to deliver and support the technical solution for the Integrated Project Team (IPT). You will work closely with the Chief Engineer, Systems Design Authority, customers and partners to ensure technical quality, schedule and budget.
* Lead the engineering aspects of the project, ensuring technical quality, schedule and budget.
* Manage cross‑site, multi‑disciplined engineering teams, ensuring roles within the teams are clearly defined.
* Create a positive working relationship with customers and partners to deliver project capability.
* Establish and maintain good lines of communication internally across the Engineering IPT.
* Work closely with the Systems Design Authority to keep them fully informed on technical progress, technical risk and mitigation strategies.
* Ensure the design solution meets the end user requirement, is reliable, fully documented and works within the designated environment.
* Ensure the design solution is compatible with the business area route map.
* Control project configuration and change management to maximise design reuse.
* Support the management of suppliers and project make‑or‑buy decisions.
* Capture candidate concept solutions, including the results of any trade‑off studies and end user engagement.
* Develop the engineering team, providing mentoring, coaching, setting objectives and appraising.
What you’ll bring

* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Commercially aware.
* Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, across multiple sites.
* Strong leadership competency but can also demonstrate team‑working skills.
* Knowledge of engineering lifecycle and business process.
* Willingness to travel within the UK and possibly overseas.
It would be nice if you had
* The military domain.
* Requirements elicitation and defining software products.
* Development and certification of airborne equipment.
* New Product Introduction.
* Engineering or scientific degree qualification (or equivalent).
