What's the job?
The Junior Data Operations Manager plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operational delivery of projects within the TechOps department. Reporting directly to the Senior Business Intelligence Manager, this role provides day to day oversight and coordination across the data team. It focuses on driving progress against agreed milestones, maintaining clear communication, and supporting the delivery of high-quality outputs from the team. The role bridges strategy and execution, ensuring that priorities set at a senior level are delivered efficiently and consistently.
Role Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
* Coordinate the daily operations of the data team, ensuring work is progressing against agreed priorities and timelines.
* Support junior data roles by providing structure, clarity, and accountability in the delivery of their projects.
* Lead regular stand-ups, sprint check-ins, and progress reviews to maintain delivery momentum.
* Oversee the planning, allocation, and monitoring of team workloads to ensure objectives are met.
* Act as the first point of escalation for delivery challenges or resource pressures, resolving issues or escalating where required.
* Support performance management by monitoring progress, providing feedback, and contributing to development discussions.
* Oversee the upkeep and accuracy of the team's data catalog, ensuring data sources, reports, and dashboards remain clearly documented and up to date.
* Produce reporting on team performance, including delivery progress, quality metrics, and service standards.
* Monitor the health and reliability of data pipelines and key reporting assets, escalating recurring issues or risks where necessary.
* Conduct periodic reviews of recurring errors or performance issues to identify underlying causes and support long-term solutions.
* Contribute to process improvement by identifying inefficiencies and recommending practical changes to improve delivery and quality.
* Collaborate with stakeholders across departments to communicate progress, gather requirements, and maintain strong operational links.
* Proactively identify areas where data or operational processes can be improved to support business objectives.
* Ensure effective use of project management tools like Asana and documentation to maintain visibility of tasks, milestones, and outcomes.
Essential Skills and Experience:
* Experience coordinating or managing people within a team.
* Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once.
* Comfortable leading meetings, facilitating discussions, and driving accountability within a team.
* Confident using Microsoft Office and Excel to track progress and manage operational information.
* Understanding of data and reporting processes, with an ability to interpret progress and challenges within technical projects.
* Experience working in an environment that uses Agile or sprint-based delivery is desirable but not essential.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Awareness of Tableau, Power BI, or similar data visualisation tools.
* Exposure to business analysis, process improvement, or performance reporting.
