About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced scientific project manager to provide support for the operational management of ACED research, training and capacity building initiatives, working as part of a team of operational managers from across the different ACED centres and Cancer Research UK. You will be responsible for liaising between multidisciplinary research teams and professional services colleagues, communicating across the different centres as well as financial management and reporting on ACED activities to the ACED Executive Board, responsible for managing the Alliance, and CRUK.

The role will have a particular focus on management and organisation of the ACED training programme, aimed at developing the next generation of cancer early detection researchers. You will lead on the organisation and delivery of training courses, educational seminars and funding schemes for PhD students and early career researchers. This is a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary role requiring engagement with scientific, clinical and professional services colleagues at all levels of seniority across multiple international institutions.

You should be pro-active in your work and demonstrate excellent team leadership and programme management skills.

Role specific details:

• This role is available from 1st June until 30th November in the first instance. • Funding for ACED is committed until 31st March with additional annual extension dependent on satisfactory review of ACED progress and activity by Cancer Research UK. • The post is offered at Grade 8, maximum spine point 43 (salary range £54, - £61, inclusive of London Allowance)

About you

The successful candidate must have a broad scientific knowledge and be educated to degree level (ideally PhD) or have equivalent professional experience in a scientific discipline relevant to early detection research.

You must be proactive and well-organised with excellent project management skills and demonstrated experience managing multiple or complex scientific projects with several stakeholders.

You will have a passion for proactively supporting training and development of scientific and clinical postgraduate students and early career researchers and be able to lead on building capacity for training initiatives with knowledge of research grants and the lifecycle of awards within the university sector.

You will demonstrate excellent committee management skills, strong interpersonal and communication abilities, and sound judgement when handling sensitive or confidential matters.

Highly organised and self-motivated, you will be comfortable balancing competing priorities and working to deadlines.
